I feel as though much can be gained -- perhaps a few extra magnitudes of performance squeezed out of older hardware for instance -- if a real time OS were deployed in such a situation instead of applying old versions of Linux to every problem :) Or rather, oo, haven't I heard of a realtime-scheduling linux kernel around somewhere?
